About the event

Why scentwork? Quite simply, everyone and every dog can take part. We do not teach a dog how to use their nose, they are born with a sense of smell that is estimated to be between 10,000 to 100,000 times greater than ours.

Our dogs live in a world of scent that is alien to us. Starting to understand how our dogs experience their world via their nose can help us be more sensitive to their reactions and respond appropriately.

Scentwork builds communication and connection between dogs and people. If you have a sensitive dog, an infirm dog or suffer a disability yourself, some of the traditional dog activities may be difficult or even impossible to take part in. Scentwork removes these barriers and helps rebuild or strengthen the canine - human relationship.

Scentwork builds confidence. Success breeds confidence and all dogs can be successful at scentwork. Alongside the searches we will build other behaviours that improve obedience and control giving you more confidence in handling your dog.

This course is a combination of classroom lessons, lesson notes, homework and online support. The scheduled dates for classes are 20th November, 27th November and 4th December at 1.30pm.
