About the event

Taking time to invest in learning about walking with a dog is essential if you have ambitions to be out and about together. Going for walks together is the primary reason most people give for bringing a dog into their lives. Pulling, barking, lunging gets in the way, but all can be resolved.

The majority of us live in urban environments and need to walk with our dogs on lead for safety. When we venture into the countryside we often encounter farm animals or wildlife and need to pop our dogs on their leads for safety. Note safety rather than control, as Kay Laurence says, a lead is the safety belt not the steering wheel.

Getting out and about with our dogs has been invaluable for us during this pandemic, enhancing mental and physical health. However, a lead can signal disconnection from our dogs, we feel pulled, our dogs bark, lunge, traffic chase, we feel embarrassed, stressed and out of our depth.

Before lockdown all of our trainers spent a lot of their physical time with clients teaching Walking Together on lead skills. Finding a way to replicate the quality of that teaching online has taken a while, but I feel we are there and a brand new course is the result.

This course comprises three classes delivered over Zoom with 'homework' and tasks to complete in between. Support and feedback is available via a WhatsApp group. Classes are scheduled for 7-8pm on the 19th April and 3rd, 17th and 31st May.
